We believe that used as a vehicle for peace, conflict resolution, social re-integration, economic and social empowerment, and the reduction of gender-based bias and violence, sports can enable villages, slums, and conflict-torn communities to empower their most important and most vulnerable assets: boys and girls.
SPLASH was founded by Los Angeles-native, Nikki Mahoney. While playing professional basketball in Europe, Nikki became involved and interested in using sports as a platform for improving the lives of children worldwide. In 2009, Mahoney attended Peace and Sport's International Forum in Monte Carlo, Monaco, as well as participated as a coach/mentor at Generations for Peace in Amman, Jordan.
Sports and traveling have always been integral components to Mahoney's life. After three years of pre-med with an emphasis in sports medicine at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Nikki changed her major to Japanese and moved to Asia. Mahoney has over 10 years' experience working/coaching youth for various institutions including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Stanford University, Michael Jordan Flight School, as well as having been a French interpreter at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
Mahoney has visited all 50 of the United States and has been to over 55 countries. With her unbridled passion for sports, traveling, and helping kids, Nikki returned home to California and created SPLASH.
Currently a graduate student in International Relations with an emphasis in Sports Diplomacy, Mahoney continues to envision SPLASH as a durable solution for worldwide human development and global partnership.
